Northampton Town have been confirmed Champions of Sky Bet League 2

Northampton Town have been confirmed as Champions of Sky Bet League 2.

The Cobblers promotion was confirmed last Saturday after a 2-2 draw with Bristol Rovers left them with an unassailable lead over fourth place.

This Saturday, the title was secured after the Cobblers drew at Exeter City, Oxford United lost against Luton Town and Accrington drew with Morecambe, leaving the Cobblers unable to be caught.

Chris Wilder’s side have been in an automatic promotion spot since mid-November, and have led League 2 since mid January.

A number of club records have fallen by the wayside during this remarkable season, and more could yet follow in the remaining weeks.

2016/17 will be the first time Northampton Town have played in the third tier of English football since 2009 while this is the first title won by the club since 1986/87.
