Zander Diamond replaced Ryan Cresswell (knee) for the visit of league leaders Leyton Orient to Sixfields. Rod McDonald and Paul Corry were also ruled out through injury with the latter likely to miss the rest of the season.

Ian Hendon’s side had a couple of half chances in a cagey opening 25 minutes, Jay Simpson heading over and Dean Cox seeing a shot deflected behind by Shaun Brisley.

Diamond headed wide from a Nicky Adams free-kick on 43 minutes but a tight first half was to end goalless.

The Cobblers were forced into making a change at half-time as their miserable run of injuries continued, skipper David Buchanan the latest victim. John-Jo O’Toole was the player to come on with Joel Byrom lining up at left-back.

Town had started the second half brightly but Adam Smith made two terrific saves as Leyton Orient enjoyed a spell of pressure, denying Sammy Moore and Connor Essam.

Marc Richards and Alfie Potter came on in a double change for the home side, replacing Lawson D’Ath and Sam Hoskins with still over half an hour to play.

Another good save from Smith thwarted Jay Simpson while at the other end Alex Cisak made a good stop with his shin to prevent Alfie Potter from breaking the deadlock.

A lengthy stoppage for a serious looking injury to Leyton Orient substitute Paul McCallum meant six minutes of injury time.

Two minutes into stoppage time the Cobblers took the lead, Joel Byrom’s corner headed in by Dominic Calvert-Lewin via the underside of the crossbar.

There was to be a sting in the tail though as Leyton Orient struck deep into stoppage time, Dean Cox scoring with a 30-yard free-kick.
