CHRIS WILDER - 'GETTING THE MAXIMUM WE CAN FROM THE PLAYERS'

The Cobblers boss ahead of AFC Wimbledon v Northampton Town

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder previews Tuesday night’s trip to AFC Wimbledon.

“It’s a tough fixture but we’ve talked about the importance of consistency and we want to keep this run going,” he said.

“Wimbledon have made some changes over the summer and they’ve got some real quality players in their squad. it was a great game down there last year and we’d love our record against them to continue.

“It’s a tough place to go, we are going through a tough period at the moment with the players that are unavailable but we will always give a hundred per cent and we know we can win in any game we play but we have to play better than we did on Saturday, they will be looking to break the sequence against us and we will be looking to continue it.

“It would have been a brilliant result on Saturday, it wasn’t a great performance but to get so close to crossing the line and to be denied by a poor refereeing decision was hard to take.

“It was a fantastic effort by the players, you need that character and desire to do well in sport and we had that in bundles on Saturday.

“Arguably it would have been the best result in my time here but we have to bottle that frustration up and move onto the next game.

“We feel that we are getting the maximum out of the team at the moment which delights me and the staff.

“It’s a difficult period for us, I don’t think there is any hiding from it and no one likes the uncertainty but I get paid to manage the team and the players get paid to play for the football club.”
