Marc Richards and John-Joe O’Toole came into the Cobblers side for the midweek trip to AFC Wimbledon while David Buchanan was also passed fit to start after coming off at half-time against Leyton Orient. Alfie Potter (dead leg) was unavailable for selection but Ryan Cresswell (knee) was named on the bench.
George Francomb headed an early chance wide for Wimbledon while Paul Robinson blocked a Dominic Calvert-Lewin shot.
Wimbledon took the lead on 24 minutes, Adebayo Azeez capitalising on a defensive error to score.
The Cobblers responded well to going behind and Chris Wilder’s side were back on level terms on 35 minutes, John-Joe O’Toole rising to head home a David Buchanan cross.
Former Cobblers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa had to be replaced by the home side just before half-time after picking up an injury, Lyle Taylor coming on.
Adebayo Azeez had a chance to put Wimbledon back in front at the start of the second half, the striker sending the ball wide from close range. Azeez was then denied by a good save from Adam Smith as the Dons looked to make their pressure pay.
Sam Hoskins came on for Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the Cobblers first change of the night. Shaun Brisley then had to be replaced after picking up an injury, Ryan Cresswell introduced.
Richards had a shot blocked at close range as the game entered the final 15 minutes still very much in the balance. A deflected shot from Nicky Adams was saved by James Shea before the same player shot narrowly wide.
Sean Rigg missed from four yards as both sides continued to press for a winner in the closing stages but there wasn’t to be one as the game ended all square.
