In the only change to the side that started in the previous league game, a 3-2 win at Wycombe, Chris Hackett replaced Lawson D’Ath.

Marc Richards headed wide from an early corner as the Cobblers started on the front foot.  And it was Richards who soon opened the scoring, snaffling up the chance presented to him by Nicky Adams low left-wing cross.

Rhys Oates went close for Hartlepool on 15 minutes, Andrew Boyce heading over from the subsequent corner. At the other end Ryan Cresswell then also failed to direct a header on target.

The Cobblers lead was doubled on 21 minutes, Nicky Adams' in-swinging corner going straight in.

Rakish Bingham halved Hartlepool’s deficit just after the half hour mark, taking the ball round Adam Smith after getting on the end of a long ball forward from Michael Woods.

Richards had a chance to restore the Cobblers two goal lead on 56 minutes but the striker scuffed his shot wide from close range.

Lawson D’Ath came on for Chris Hackett in the Cobblers first change before Dominic Calvert-Lewin replaced Sam Hoskins for the final 15 minutes.

In terms of clear cut chances and goalmouth action the second half had been much quieter than the first but the Cobblers closed the game out to extend their unbeaten run in the league to six matches.
