Cobblers boss says his knowledge of winger can help
Chris Wilder says his knowledge of how to get the best from winger Alfie Potter makes his first new signing of the summer an exciting prospect.
Wilder managed Potter during their time together at Oxford United, and says their past excellent relationship can be built on at Sixfields.
“Alfie fits the bill for us and I think it’s a good fit both ways," said the Cobblers boss.
“He hasn’t had the greatest last 18 months but it’s not that long ago that he was ripping this division up.
“I know what he’s capable of and financially it is a very good deal for the football club.
“He needs to get himself up and running again but I believe I can get the best out of him as I have done in the past.
“Alfie knows what he is walking into, this is a fresh chance for him and if we can do with Alfie what we’ve done with Ricky Holmes then we will be delighted.
“It was important that we strengthened at the top of the pitch to add competition and Alfie is the right age and he suits the way we want to play.
“He wants to get at people and take people on and defensively he can do a good job.
“We want players who can take people on and with Lawson and Ricky together with the other players we’ve got I think we have that."
