CLUB ALREADY IN ADVANCED TALKS WITH SUMMER TARGETS

13 May 2015

The Cobblers boss on his bid to strengthen the squad

Chris Wilder says the club are already in advanced talks with a number of their summer transfer targets.

“We are already in discussions with our targets and we want to get our business done early," he said.

“We will look at the loan market but I’m not a big lover of short-term loans and if we do bring players in on loan it will be for the season or from window to window.

“Sometimes you have to bring players in short-term because of injuries but on the whole I like to have players here for a period of time where they can really integrate themselves into the football club.

“We will look at bringing in one or two players on season-long loans and ideally we would like to carry a squad of 20 to 21 with a couple of utility players.

“We’d like to have most of the squad in place for the start of pre-season and I’d imagine that will happen.

“I’m not saying the squad will be absolutely complete by the start of pre-season but I’d like to think we will have 15 to 18 players of the 20 to 21 we want.

“This is a good club to join and I think people can see the progression that we have made.

“We are kicking on, there is a lot of optimism ahead of us and I’m sure there are a lot of players who would be excited to come here.

“We’ve got some work to do but we will be refreshed and ready to go again.

“We’ve got a good base of players to build from and we’ll add some exciting players to the group that we’ve already got.

“We’ve got a lot of talent in this group and we are going to bring players in who are going to add competition and who are going to improve us and make us better."
