The Cobblers boss on defender Lee Collins
Chris Wilder says that of all the decisions he had to make at the end of the season, the call on Lee Collins was the toughest.
“Lee’s been arguably the most difficult decision we’ve had to make," he said.
“It was a real borderline decision right up to this last week but we’ve decided not to offer him a contract.
“We’ve got two centre halves in Ryan and Zander on three-year deals who we expect to play and we are looking at bringing in another natural left-footer to complement them.
“Lee has shown a reaction since Christmas and maybe some people will be surprised with the decision and I can understand that but we feel that this is the right decision.
“Any decision that you make is not always going to be universally popular but I’ve got to make those decisions and look at how I believe I can take this club forward. I'm not here to win a popularity contest, I am here to make tough decisions that I feel are in the best interests of the club.
“I’ve got to back my judgement and if Lee goes onto better things I wish him all the best."
