Northampton Spencer to host matches

The University of Northampton Stallions are to host the Inter-University Varsity Tournament against Team Derby across a number of Northampton locations this March.

This follows a dramatic 10-9 win in the University’s first ever Varsity in 2014 at the University of Derby’s Keddleston Road Campus.

The University of Northampton Stallions Men's Football Club kick things off on Tuesday 24 March at 19:30 at Northampton Spencer FC, with all other sports playing their matches the following day on Wednesday 25 March.

The Men's Football Committee, run by President James Cooper, have worked hard this year to make Varsity one of the biggest events in the Club’s history.

James had this to say on how the club has been preparing, "In regards to preparation, hard work has not just taken place on the training ground , but also off, with the club covering the cost for Derby to travel to Northampton on Tuesday evening, alongside booking an off-campus pitch. The whole club is rallying together with Varsity soon approaching which will be the biggest event in the club's history and we all can't wait."

The club are keen to ensure that as many of their supporters can attend as possible have organised a free coach service from Park Campus, departing at 18:00 that evening to take spectators to the ground. The coaches will return to Park Campus at 21:30.

Daniel Dineen, Men’s Football Varsity Captain, said: "Varsity is a fantastic event that brings all the sports clubs at the University of Northampton together. So very often we’re all playing away at institutions across the country and unable to support one another. With our match opening Varsity, we wanted to ensure that we could include all the Stallions by bringing them all to Northampton Spencer FC. “

Northampton Spencer FC Club house will be open throughout the game which has a student-friendly bar, selling food and beverages, and is open to all students and the general public.
