Winger Ricky Holmes could return to the Cobblers side on Saturday after getting the all-clear from a scan on his knee earlier in the week.
Evan Horwood (groin) is however unlikely to feature at Gigg Lane.
“It was amazing news on Ricky and he maybe okay for Saturday,” said assistant boss Alan Knill.
“I’ve got to stress though that is only a maybe and we are still being delicate with him.
“It’s still something we need to keep an eye on, he is a big player for us and we need to be careful with him.
“Evan was in a lot of pain after the game last Saturday and he still is so I’d have to say that he is doubtful for the weekend.
“I think our squad is better equipped now than it was before Christmas and I think the system we are playing now suits the players that we’ve got.
“We’ve brought Diego in this week but we are still looking to strengthen and if something else crops up we will look at it”
