Boss Chris Wilder was forced into making two changes for the visit of Carlisle with Ricky Holmes (knee) and Evan Horwood (groin) sidelined. Chris Hackett and Tom Newey came into the side with Joel Byrom, back from suspension, named on the bench. Former Cobbler Derek Asamoah started up front for Carlisle.

After a quiet start to the game the first chance of the night fell to Lawson D'Ath but his header across the face of goal was well saved by Dan Hanford.

In a first half of very few chances for either side Brendon Moloney fired a shot just over from distance while Sean O’Hanlon headed narrowly wide from a Carlisle corner.

The second half started at a higher tempo and on 54 minutes Moloney shot just over.

Carlisle took the lead on 68 minutes, Jason Kennedy turning the ball home.

Ivan Toney replaced John-Joe O’Toole almost immediately but the Cumbrians lead was quickly doubled when Kyle Dempsey headed home on 72 minutes.

Billy Bodin and Joel Byrom came on for Lee Collins and Darren Carter but the Cobblers couldn’t find a way back into the game as their six-match winning home run came to an end.
