Boss Chris Wilder reflecting on Saturday’s 1-0 home win against Tranmere, a result that has taken the Cobblers to within three points of a play-off place.

“We had to work really hard for the win today and it wasn’t over until the final whistle,” he said.

“It was a pretty open game and we had to make sure that we kept our shape and discipline while still giving ourselves enough going forward. Tranmere have got pace on the counter and we didn’t want to open ourselves up too much to that.

“I thought we were the better team in the first half and even though we didn’t score probably deserved to be ahead.

“We defended when we had to in the second half and Matt Duke has got a great knack of pulling out a top drawer save when he needs to.

“We feel this is a big week for us with two home games and if we can win again on Tuesday then we will be right in the pack."

Speaking about the injury that forced winger Ricky Holmes off in the second half Wilder said:

“Ricky fell heavily on his knee but we are hoping it’s nothing too serious. We really can’t afford to lose any more players through injury so fingers crossed he is okay but we will have to wait and see.”
