Head Groundsman Paul Knowles talks us through the summer work
The summer pitch renovation work at Sixfields is under way, and Head Groundsman Paul Knowles has been talking us through what is taking place.
"The pitch played quite well last season so after the major work of 12 months ago we are undergoing a standard renovation this summer," he said.
"The surface has just been scarified, this cleans up the top inch of the pitch and removes the weaker grass.
"After that we will add 60 tonnes of free drainage sand and the pitch will then be spiked down 8 inches deep. The sand will then be pushed into these holes which will help the pitch drain well.
"We will then re-seed with perennial rye grass and then fertilise and water as required. We expect to cut for the first time in 2 weeks or so, with the next game on the pitch taking place in just under 7 weeks and we will have the pitch ready for that."
