TOM NEWEY SIGNS UNTIL THE END OF THE SEASON

27 January 2015

Defender returns to Sixfields having left Oxford United

Northampton Town have signed left footed defender Tom Newey on a contract until the end of the season after he left Oxford United earlier this week.

Scunthorpe United’s Player of the Year in 2012/13, Tom joined Oxford in July 2013.

He started his career with Leeds United, and after loan spells with Cambridge United and Darlington he moved to Leyton Orient in July 2003. After another brief loan spell with Cambridge United, he signed for them in March 2005. In June 2005 he joined Grimsby, spending four years at Blundell Park and playing in the 2006 League 2 play-off final. He moved to Bury in August 2009 and Rotherham a year later, before his move to Scunthorpe in July 2012.

32 year old Newey has more than 450 senior appearances under his belt, and an earlier loan spell at Sixfields was cut short by injury.
