Promotion hopefuls Newport County were the visitors to Sixfields as Cobblers boss Chris Wilder named the same starting eleven for a fourth consecutive game.

Town started firmly on the front foot with Ricky Holmes seeing a shot cleared off the line, Ryan Cresswell having a volley tipped onto the crossbar and a John-Joe O’Toole effort ruled out for off-side.

The goal the Cobblers had been threatening came on 13 minutes, Ryan Cresswell with a text book header from a corner.

Holmes fired over following a good run down the right by Lawson D’Ath before John-Joe O’Toole doubled Town’s lead just shy of the half hour mark, O’Toole nodding home from another Joel Byrom corner.

After a fairly uneventful 20 minutes at the start of the second half the Cobblers made their first change, Ivan Toney coming on for O’Toole.

As time progressed and the temperature dropped the Cobblers continued to look in control, comfortable at the back and a threat on the counter.

The Cobblers extended their lead on 83 minutes, Lawson D’Ath with a terrific strike into the bottom corner after cutting into the Newport area.

3-0 was how it finished, the Cobblers remaining unbeaten in 2015 as they made it 10 points from 4 games and 3 wins on the bounce.
