Cobblers boss Chris Wilder previews Saturday’s trip to Exeter City.
“It was a big result and a big performance for us last Saturday and we need to build on that,” he said.
“I was pleased with our effort and the reaction from everybody but now we need to kick on.
“We had to make changes, the team wasn’t doing well enough and we needed to change things around which we did.
“Sometimes you come to a stage where people have had enough chances to show what they can do and you need to shuffle the pack. We needed to decrease our numbers which we have done and it will be good to work with a smaller group.
“The new players have given everybody a lift and I do sense that the place is a lot more upbeat but it’s important that we keep showing the same qualities that we did on Saturday against a very good Southend team.”
