John-Joe O’Toole begins a three-match ban after the club decided against appealing his sending off at Mansfield.

“We have options to replace John-Joe but we like the shape of the team at the moment,” said boss Chris Wilder.

“We are attack minded and we want to really go for games.

“We were tempted to appeal John-Joe’s red card, he did retaliate but I think you can see from the footage that he was severely provoked. Their player had him in a headlock and we should have had a penalty.

“John-Joe shouldn’t have retaliated and he will have to learn from that but we won’t be taking any further action. We have reminded him about his responsibilities and we look forward to having him back for the Plymouth game in a couple of weeks.

“Zander Diamond is working extremely hard but we won’t rush him back. We took him off against Morecambe as more of a precaution because we didn’t want to risk losing him for a longer period.”
