CHRIS WILDER NAMED SKY BET LEAGUE 2 MANAGER OF THE MONTH

6 February 2015

Cobblers boss picks up top honour

Northampton Town manager Chris Wilder has been named the Sky Bet League 2 manager of the month for January.

The Cobblers won four and drew one of their 5 January games, with the judging panel of former Ipswich Town manager George Burley, Sky Sports’ Football League expert Don Goodman, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery selecting Chris Wilder as January's top boss.

Burley chairs the panel.

He said: “Chris has worked hard to get consistency from his team this season.  Getting 13 points from 15 was a great effort which has taken Northampton Town towards the play-off positions.  Winning 5–1 away at Accrington was a splendid result.”

Sky Sports’ Football League pundit Don Goodman said: “Chris has turned around Northampton Town’s fortunes, and their results in January saw them shoot up the table from 20th to 12th.

“This award is recognition of that superb form and is very well deserved.”

Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery said: “Northampton had an excellent month that has seen them moving into the top half of the league with outside chances of promotion.

“They had been in awful form prior to this month but it seems as though Chris Wilder has got them back on track, and they will be hoping to continue this good form through February.”

Despite the good form, none of the Cobblers players made the shortlist for the player of the month award, with Tranmere's George Donnelly picking up that honour.
