Chris Wilder on Shrewsbury Town v Northampton Town

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder reflecting on Saturday’s 2-1 win at Shrewsbury.

“I think it’s a deserved result and our performance from the first minute to the last warranted the three points,” he said.

“We had to defend for our lives in the last ten minutes but the players put their bodies on the line and we held out.

“We needed a special performance to come and win here, we needed a big performance and the boys certainly produced that.

“We had nothing to lose coming here but we didn’t just want to come and make up the numbers. I felt we dominated the first half and really could have been further ahead.

“We kept the ball well, we created some good chances and their keeper made some good saves. Ivan Toney was excellent and I thought he lead the line superbly.

“The players are playing with freedom and we don’t want to crush their confidence but our work ethic is key to everything we do and we have to keep that going.”
