LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK AT YORK

24 December 2015

Chris Wilder on York City v Northampton Town

Boss Chris Wilder knows his Northampton Town side will face a rejuvinated York City when they head north on Boxing Day.

“York are on the up but when we’ve lost a game before we’ve bounced back quickly and that’s what we need to do again to preserve our position in and around the top of the league,” he said.

“We know better than anybody that the fight for survival in the Football League is massive and York have shown tremendous spirit in the last two games.

“There is always a good atmosphere at York and in my experience Boxing Day games tend to take care of themselves.

“We went toe-to-toe with Portsmouth last Saturday and we know that we can compete with the best in this league.

“Fine margins cost us in the end and we can take great heart from Saturday but the bottom line is that we lost.

“It was a big game and we want to play in big games but we want to win them.

“It’s a long season and it’s nine months of tough tests all the way along and whoever comes out on top needs to do well consistently.

“There is not much room for error but it’s important not to dwell to much and when the games come thick and fast you need to be ready for the next challenge.

“We are in the race and the players should take great strength from what we’ve produced so far this season. We’ve put ourselves in a good position but there is still a long way to go.”
