CLUB TO MAKE £500 DONATION TO HELP FAMILY AFFECTED BY SIXFIELDS TAVERN FIRE

Cobblers to support Matt Skolfield and his family following the fire at the Sixfields Tavern

Northampton Town Football Club are to make a £500 donation to the fund set up to help Matt Skolfield and his family following the fire at the Sixfields Tavern on Saturday.

Matt is the landlord of the premises that were badly damaged by fire, the blaze taking hold on Saturday afternoon as Northampton Town were taking on Northwich Victoria in the FA Cup last weekend.

The club have made contact with the organisers of the fundraising campaign to help Matt and his family and they have been invited to come down to Sixfields to receive a £500 donation.

"The incident that happened on Saturday provided a dramatic backdrop to the game and we were upset to hear that Matt and his family lost so much in the fire," said Northampton Town Chairman Kelvin Thomas.

"The football club has been through some tough times in recent months, times where people rallied around to help  and we know the pub is a popular location with our supporters, both before and after games. Recently the Sixfields Travel Club also hosted a meal there for the staff and we felt it was important that we helped out with the fundraising too.

"As a club and a fanbase we must stand together with our neighbours at Sixfields and we hope that our donation helps Matt and his family in some small way.

"Also in the absence of the Sixfields Tavern we will be looking at some options to increase space for supporters looking to enjoy a pre or post match drink, and we hope to announce more details in due course."
