CHRIS WILDER - 'NO BACK SLAPPING, WE NEED TO IMPROVE'

The Cobblers boss on Northampton Town 1 Accrington Stanley 0

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder felt the result was more positive than the performance as he reflected on Monday’s 1-0 win against Accrington.

“I can’t take many positives from the way we played but we can take the three points,” he said.

“Accrington are a decent, dangerous side and we were second best all over the park today.

“We were off the pace in every aspect but one thing we have got is a tremendous spirit and desire to stay in games.

“I’m sure Accrington are desperately disappointed that they haven’t taken anything from the game but we’ve all been in football long enough to know that you don’t always get what you deserve.

“Adam Smith was outstanding for us yet again and really he won us the three points.

“We have to be better than we were today and I’m sure we will be but in a 46 game season you get games like this. We had tremendous support again and I’m grateful we have a crowd here that really gets behind the team.

“There is no back slapping for us today and we know that there are things we need to work on but I know we have got the quality in this group to play better.”
