WILDER BRINGS IN DEFENDER YATES

24 August 2015

Port Vale right-back joins on loan

Northampton Town have signed Port Vale defender Adam Yates on a month’s loan.

The 32-year old has spent the last six seasons at Vale Park, making over 200 appearances for the League One club.

An experienced right-back, Yates began his career at Crewe Alexandra and also spent three seasons at Morecambe between 2006 and 2009. He is also a former semi-pro international for England C.

Yates, who had a loan spell at Halifax Town under Chris Wilder back in 2003/04, has been allocated squad number 23 at Sixfields and has been given permission to play in Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup second round tie at Newcastle United.

"Adam is a consistent performer and he adds some more experience to the squad which we were looking for," said boss Chris Wilder.

"He has played a lot of games in League One and League Two and he gives us that stability.

"I had Adam as a kid on loan from Crewe when I was at Halifax and Marc Richards, who played a lot of games with him at Port Vale, is full of praise for him.

"He is another strong character to add to the group that we've already got and I'm sure he will have no problems fitting in to what we are trying to do."
