The Cobblers boss on Newcastle United v Northampton Town

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder is excited by the Capital One Cup second round tie at Newcastle United.

“At this stage of the competition I don’t think it really gets any bigger than this,” he said.

“It’s a great opportunity for the players and they need to embrace the challenge, knowing that we want to go up there and do ourselves justice.

“It’s a big step up for us but we don’t want to go there just to make up the numbers, we want to make sure that we are tough, hard to beat and that we give them a competitive game.

“The game starts at 0-0 and there is always a chance that we can get a result but we know that things will have to fall in our lap a little bit and my players will have to play unbelievably well.

“It’s an opportunity for the players to make a name for themselves and for the club. This club has got a great record in the Capital One Cup and we want to continue that.

“Everything is stacked against us, we will need to have a lot of luck and my players will need to have the night of their life but it can happen.

“These things happen in football, not very often but we have to believe that it can be our night.”
