UNDER 14S THROUGH TO SEMI FINALS OF BARCELONA CUP

11 April 2015

Academy updates from Barcelona

Saturday saw the Northampton Town Under 14 squad compete in the group stages of the Football Cup Barcelona alongside teams from all over the world. After a final team meeting in picturesque surroundings, the squad made their way  to the impressive facilities which would see over 70 teams compete for silverware across the various age groups.

It was clear to see from the first warm up that the boys were all relishing the challenge of showing what they are all capable of, and this was reflected in a good solid performance which saw us beat Finnish side Peli-Karhut White 1-0 in the opening game, Jack Daldy with the goal.

After lunch we met Belgian opponents Union Saint Giloise, a game which ended in a frustrating 0-0 draw in blisteringly hot conditions. With all to play for the boys headed into the final game knowing a win would see them qualify top of the group and face runners up of Group B. The boys started strong and played some free flowing football from minute one. Our quality soon showed and proved too much for our Saudi Arabian opposition FB Strikers, with the Cobblers cruising to a 9-0 victory. Kobi Bivens scoring three and Jack Daldy two with Luis Corcoran, Joe Jarvis, Tom O’Neil and Ryan Hughes all grabbing a goal each to send Northampton Town through as group leaders.

Following a tough schedule, the boys headed back to the hotel for a much needed recovery session with Academy physio Steve Bottom in the icy cold swimming pool.

On Sunday Northampton Town face Slovenian opposition NS Miklavz Dobrovce in the semi-final. Fingers crossed the boys continue their good work and progress to the final on Sunday evening.
