Ryan Cresswell and Jason Taylor will both come back into the Cobblers squad for Saturday’s trip to Burton after completing their respective two-match bans.
“They are two good players and I’ve got some tough decisions to make,” said boss Chris Wilder.
“As a manager that’s how it should be and it’s important going forward to next season that we have a really strong squad with competition for places going right through it.
“We’ve got a decision to make on Marc Richards for Saturday but as I’ve said before we won’t take any unnecessary risks with his injury that could affect him long-term.
“We won’t be taking any stupid gambles with Marc, he has been a big player for us and he will be again next season.
“The nucleus of the squad is in place but we’ve still got some tough decisions to make on contracts for next season.”
