An update from the Cobblers Chairman
Chairman David Cardoza is pleased that the frustration of the delays to the East Stand are now in the past and that all connected to Northampton Town can look forward with optimism.
“Off the pitch we are back on track and over the next couple of weeks we will really start to see things moving ahead with the East Stand," he said.
“I’m delighted about that, it’s obviously taken far too long and we’ve wasted far too much time and money but we move on and by the start of next season it won’t be fully completed but it will be almost there.
“We have a contract with Buckinghams that has a completion date for towards the end of September but we think it will be finished a bit before then so maybe by the middle of September.
"They have been back on site a fair few weeks now. Obviously they have had to spend some time with surveyors before the building work could resume but that has been done and they have been working on the ground level at the back of the stand for a couple of weeks now.
“The finalised plans are that we are trying to put boxes all the way across the top and the structural engineers are looking at that at the moment.
“The intention is to get as many boxes in as we can and as many seats in as we can and we will make sure that the seats are in for the first game of the season.
“We want to get to 10,000 seats and we are about to start discussions with Buckinghams about how we can best increase the capacity and what’s the most cost effective way to do that. We are looking at redeveloping at least one of the stands behind the goal, particularly giving us a stand we can split into two to offer increased capacity for home or away fans as required."
