MARC RICHARDS NOMINATED FOR SKY BET LEAGUE 2 PLAYER OF MONTH AWARD

7 October 2014

Striker on shortlist for monthly honour

Cobblers striker Marc Richards has been nominated for the Sky Bet League Two player-of-the-month award for September.

Richards scored six goals during the month for Town as they rose into the division’s play-off places to earn his place on the four-man short list.

Joining the 32-year-old in the nominations are Wycombe striker Paul Hayes, Southend midfielder Jack Payne and Luton centre-back Luke Wilkinson, who was briefly on loan at Northampton under Ian Sampson.

Hayes scored three of the Chairboys’ five goals and his winner against Cambridge United was his 100th league goal, while Payne has two assists and a goal to his name for the period.

The Hatters did not concede a goal with Wilkinson, who has recovered from a back injury, in the side in September and scored one goal, against Oxford United.

The judging panel comprises former Wolves and West Brom Don Goodman; Football League press officer John Nagle; League Managers’ Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.

The winner will be announced on Friday.
