Club help stage event at Goals in Northampton
Young Asian footballers have been given the opportunity to catch the eye of Northampton Town scouts in a five-a-side tournament held in Northampton.
The first ever Asia Cup was held at Goals Soccer Centre in Mereway, Northampton on Tuesday, with representatives from the Cobblers on hand hoping to snap up a star of the future.
The tournament was the brainchild of keen football fan Naz Islam, owner of Saffron restaurant in Northampton, and has been backed by organisations including the FA, Kick It Out and Football for Peace.
The Asia Cup, which has been sponsored by Michael Ellis, Conservative MP for Northampton North, was open to squads of seven players aged 16 or over, five of whom must be from an Asian background.
The tournament was supported by Northampton Town and was backed by Football for Peace ambassador and Cobblers defender Kashif Siddiqi, a Pakistan international.
