Club grateful for use of units
Northampton Town Football Club have recently been working with a company called Perform Better.
Perform Better loaned the club 4 Catapult GPS units in the final weeks of the season. These units are used by various sports teams including West Ham United, Leicester City and the British and Irish Lions.
The GPS allows the club to track the movements of players in a game including total distance covered, total distance covered at different speeds, accelerations, decelerations, changes of direction, jumps, total load through the body and more.
The club have also been using the units to monitor training. The feedback provided to coaches allows them to see if the session is having the desired effects, and differences between individuals in sessions. One player who has been using the units since his return from injury is Kelvin Langmead.
Long term use of the units can be used for injury prevention (eg to prevent undertraining, overtraining) and modelling/periodising individual and group training programmes.
