SIXFIELDS TO HOST YOUNG GOLFERS

4 March 2014

Northants County Junior Golf squad here on Sunday

Sixfields will play host to a different sport on Sunday March 9th as Northampton Town Football Club host a winter training afternoon for Northamptonshire's finest young female golfers.

Members of the squad, aged from 9 to 18 will travel to Sixfields from all over the county to be put through their paces by Alex McKeown, who recently graduated from Leeds University with a BSc in Sports Science and Physiology.

Adrian Clifford, the PGA Golf Professional at Rushden Golf Club, will lead sessions on Course Management and the Rules of Golf, while Northants County Junior Organiser Sally McKeown is being assisted in her sessions by Becky Gee, Northants Golf County Team Manager, and other Ladies County Committee members, who have recently been successful in passing examinations set by England Golf in the Rules of Golf.

The young golfers taking part will include those who are already members of golf clubs and represent Northamptonshire teams for girls and ladies golf.  Other girls are relatively new to golf and are yet to join golf clubs.

Chairman David Cardoza said he was delighted to host the event. "With the starting of the redevelopment we firmly believe that Sixfields will increasingly become the venue of choice for a wide range of events in all areas," he said.

"This is a first for us, and we are delighted to have some of the most talented young female golfers in the area coming to train using our facilities. We hope they have an enjoyable and beneficial afternoon and wish them well for the 2014 season."

Northantts County have already produced a Solheim Cup player, the youngest ever in the shape of Charlie Hull.

Girls aged 9 to 18 who are interested in golf and want to get involved should please email sallyj58@me.com
