John Marquis, Ian Morris and Gary Deegan all came into the side for the trip to Scunthorpe, replacing Emile Sinclair, Chris Hackett and Brennan Dickenson.

The Cobblers more than held their own against promotion chasing Iron in a fairly low key first half, restricting the team who started the day second in Sky Bet League 2 to very few chances.

There was a yellow card for Ricky Ravenhill seven minutes befor the break, but Town, for their part, put together some nice passages of play in the first 45 minutes at  Glanford Park.

Scunthorpe started the second half on the offensive and they had the lead on 52 minutes, all be it in slightly controversial circumstances, Niall Canavan's goal standing despite an apparent infringement on goalkeeper Matt Duke.

Things then got worse for the Cobblers five minutes later when Ricky Ravenhill was sent off after picking up a second yellow card.

Ten man Town equalised on 64 minutes, Zander Diamond with a terrific header from a perfectly delivered Darren Carter free-kick.

Paddy Madden had a chance to put the home side back in front on 73 minutes but Matt Duke had other ideas, the Cobblers stopper with an outstanding save.

Duke thwarted Madden again as the game entered stoppage time but Scunthorpe couldn't make their numerical advantage count as the Cobblers claimed a valuable, and well-deserved point.
