REDEVELOPMENT TO 'BREAK GROUND'

11 March 2014

Building work to officially start at Sixfields this week

The County Group, Northampton Town Football Club and Northampton Borough Council will officially break ground on their joint venture development project to redevelop Sixfields Stadium this week.

The joint venture will promote economic stability for the local area as well as providing improved facilities for Northampton Town Football Club as part of a redeveloped stadium.

The development that is due to ‘break ground’ on Friday promises 33 acres of mixed use property; retail, residential and housing as well as a 100 bedroom hotel, connected to a conference facility boasting an ability to host up to 800 people.  The most notable detail of the venture is the ability to create much of this development on the Northampton Waterside Enterprise Zone, as an important facility for the businesses who are already located there and those soon to join them.

The directors at County Group and Northampton Town Chairman David Cardoza would like to publicly thank Northampton Borough Council for its efforts to make the project  happen, particularly the support of the Council’s Leader, Cllr David Mackintosh.

Simon Patnick, Chief Operating Officer of County Group said: "It’s clear that the coming together of these 3 groups has led to a bright and prosperous future for Sixfields and its local area, not only providing future jobs, wealth and value to the area but also giving Northampton Town Football Club the ability to be self financing and having the opportunity to generate increased levels of income to help the club move up the football ladder and become a 24/7/365 business."

Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council said: “This is a really significant day for Northampton Town Football Club and for Northampton.  Increasingly success in professional sports is as much about what happens off the pitch as on it and the expansion of Sixfields Stadium and the surrounding area will help to regenerate the west of Northampton and develop the club.

“We are committed to supporting the Cobblers, and helping the club to take full advantage of the business opportunities of being located in our Enterprise Zone.”

David Cardoza, Chairman of Northampton Town added, “This is a momentous day for Northampton Town Football Club. We are so grateful to David Mackintosh and Northampton Borough Council for their support, without which we wouldn’t be in this position. They have been fantastic in helping to deliver a facility of which the town will be truly proud.”

On Friday 14th March at 1:30pm David Cardoza, The County Group, Cllr David Mackinstosh and many other contributors will come together at Sixfields Stadium to break ground and officially start up the development!
