John Marquis, having re-signed on loan from Millwall, came straight into the side to partner Emile Sinclair in attack with Alan Connell dropping to the bench. Evan Horwood and Ian Morris also both started in place of Brennan Dickenson and Gregor Robertson, who was named on the team sheet before being withdrawn following the warm-up.

Former Cobblers loanee Hallam Hope started for Bury with two more familiar names, Clive Platt and Nathan Cameron among the Shakers substitutes.

After a bright start from the Cobblers, Bury took the lead against the run of play on 18 minutes, Hallam Hope converting Daniel Nardiello’s cross, his header going in off the underside of the crossbar.

The Cobblers were denied an equaliser by the woodwork on 29 minutes, a John Marquis shot striking the inside of the post before bouncing away to safety.

Bury doubled their lead in somewhat fortunate fashion on 35 minutes, Danny Mayor’s shot taking a big deflection before looping over Matt Duke.

Chris Wilder made a double change at half-time with Gary Deegan and Brennan Dickenson coming on for Ricky Ravenhill and Chris Hackett.

Gary Deegan picked up a booking on 68 minutes for a high challenge on Andrew Proctor before Ben Tozer replaced Leon McSweeney. Bury then made a change with Clive Platt coming on for Hallam Hope.

A good save from Brian Jensen denied Deegan a goal as the game entered the final ten minutes.

Danny Rose added a third for Bury in stoppage time, the Shakers substitute capitalising on a poor back pass to round off the scoring and secure a 3-0 victory for the visitors.
