Northampton Town Ladies book appearance in May Cup Final
Cobblers Ladies Make League Cup Final!
An outstanding effort from Northampton Town Ladies saw them defeat Burton Park Wanderers Ladies in the League Cup Semi Final on Sunday thanks to a single Jess Charles goal.
This was a semi-final that Burton could have expected to win having beaten the Cobblers in their two league encounters and having a 100% record this season. However, Northampton Town came with a game plan and that put Cobblers on the front foot.
The decisive goal came in the 25th minute from an excellent 25 yard free kick by Charles, leaving the Burton keeper with no chance. This gave Cobblers something to hang on to. The closest Burton came in response was from two free kicks which were both dealt with comfortably by keeper Tania Morton.
In fact it was Northampton who went on to have the best efforts of the game, almost making it 2-0 twice, again from two 25 yard free kicks which both hit the bar.
All of the hard work in training is now beginning to pay off and the recent addition of Ben Jones to the coaching staff has already started to pay dividends. The final will be against S&L Corby Ladies or Moulton Ladies in May.
However, it is back to league action for the Ladies next with a home league game against Netherton at Sixfields on Sunday.
