Cobblers to travel south to take on Conference Premier new boys

Northampton Town will travel to Conference Premier side Eastleigh for a pre-season friendly.

The game will be the final pre-season outing for the Cobblers, on Friday August 1st at 730pm.

Eastleigh, based near Southampton, are managed by former Cobblers midfielder Richard Hill and include former Town defender Dean Beckwith in an experienced squad. They won promotion to the Conference Premier last season and have added a number of Football League players to their squad over the summer.

"I wanted a really testing work out the weekend before the season starts," said Chris Wilder.

"Eastleigh will provide us with that. I think they will do well this season, they have a lot of momentum, they have put a good squad together and they will give us a tough examination which is ideal for us just before the season begins.

"We are grateful to Eastleigh for agreeing to host us and we are looking forward to making the trip."
