A Northampton Town XI travelled to the Dog and Duck to take on Wellingborough Town in their latest pre-season friendly.

Emile Sinclair had the ball in the net in the third minute but the goal was ruled out by an offside flag. A deflected Nicholls shot fell to Sinclair and he tucked away nicely only for the flag to be raised.

The former Macclesfield Town man was involved moments later, sending over a cross that was volleyed towards goal by Danny Clifton but the keeper made the save.

A 6th minute David Moyo shot was tipped behind for a corner, while moments later Sinclair took a high ball down well but shot narrowly beyond the far post.

Sinclair had the ball in the net again on 15 minutes but the effort was again ruled out for offside, while at the other end Dean Snedker was equal to the first attempt of the night from the home side four minutes later. In a good spell for the Doughboys they fired just over shortly afterwards.

Ivan Toney put the Cobblers in front just before the mid way point in the first half. From a lofted through ball from Ben Jackson, Toney took the ball on his chest and calmly lobbed over the keeper into the net.

The lead was doubled on 36 minutes when a right wing cross from Toney was met by Academy midfielder Richard Parker who headed the ball back across the keeper and in.

The lead was added to again four minutes before the break when Danny Clifton's corner was headed home powerfully by David Moyo.

Five minutes after half time a sweeping Alex Nicholls cross found Ivan Toney but he couldn’t quite supply the finish, but Toney did make it 4-0 on 56 minutes with a sublime chip over the keeper. He was released well by a Moyo volley and he supplied a lovely deft finish.

Dean Snedker made a couple of good saves to protect his clean sheet, while Toney went close to his hat-trick on two occasions and Moyo was also close to another.

Moyo did extend the lead further on 77 minutes after some great work from Sinclair. The signing from Crawley set off on a blistering run down the left and supplied a cross that the Academy product fired home.

David Moyo completed his hat-trick with three minutes to play. A poor touch from the keeper allowed him to nip in and run the ball home.

That rounded off the scoring in another decent pre-season work out.
