With just two weeks to go before the start of the new league season the Cobblers welcomed Leyton Orient to Sixfields for their final home pre-season friendly.

Boss Chris Wilder was still without Ian Morris (tight thigh) and Lewis Hornby (back) while Ben Tozer replaced Daniel Alfei (illness) in the only change to the side that drew with Sheffield United in midweek.

On a very hot and humid afternoon at Sixfields, Dean Cox volleyed over the first chance of the game for Orient.

John-Joe O’Toole rose well but headed just over from a Darren Carter corner on the half hour as the home side enjoyed a spell of pressure on the O’s goal.

A stinging shot from Chris Dagnall was beaten away by Matt Duke at the near post on 38 minutes before some good link up play involving O’Toole and Marc Richards culminated in a shot over the bar from the former Chesterfield striker.

After missing the previous game through injury, Ivan Toney came on at half-time with Marc Richards making way. From an Orient set-piece at the start of the second half Nathan Clarke saw a header clip the Cobblers goal frame.

Bradley Pritchard fired the O’s in front just before the hour mark with a cool left-footed strike. The Cobblers then made their second change with Emile Sinclair replacing Chris Hackett.

Duke did well to thwart Dagnall on 75 minutes with the O’s striker through on goal. At the other end Toney then had a header from a Horwood cross well saved by Adam Legzdins.

Despite some encouraging signs from the Cobblers they couldn’t find an equaliser though as they were edged out by last season’s losing League One play-off finalists.
