New loan signings Matty Blair and Sean McGinty both came straight into the side with Ishmel Demontagnac also recalled to the starting line-up.

Chris Hackett (hamstring) was unavailable for selection while Paul Reid and Danny Emerton dropped to the bench. McGinty was named at left-back with Tozer reverting to centre-half. Lee Collins captained the side.

The Cobblers started brightly and in the opening 15 minutes, Antonio German headed wide from a Kevin Amankwaah cross while Demontagnac drew a save from Michael Ingham.

Michael Coulson was away for York on 20 minutes but Ben Tozer did well to get back and make the block. Matt Duke then did well to save a Josh Carson free-kick. Demontagnac fired over on 39 minutes in the final attempt of the first half.

Hallam Hope found the side netting at the start of the second half having been played in by an incisive throughball by Demontagnac. From a Hope cross Matty Blair then spurned a good chance in front of goal, failing to connect cleanly with a header from Hope's cross.

Caretaker boss Andy King made his first change just after the hour mark, Danny Emerton coming on for Demontagnac.

A headed interception from Tozer denied Wes Fletcher on 66 minutes but York had the lead soon after, Ryan Bowman with a looping header to beat Matt Duke.

York were awarded a penalty on 70 minutes, Kevin Amankwaah penalised for a clip on Michael Coulson. Wes Fletcher stepped up to make it 2-0.

Andy King then made an immediate substitution with David Moyo replacing Hallam Hope. Matty Harriott was then introduced into the action with Amankwaah the player to make way.

Ben Tozer had a header saved on 86 minutes before a shot from Gary Deegan was blocked by the York defence. Nigel Worthington’s side then saw out four minutes of injury time without incident to claim the three points.
