WILDER EXPECTING TOUGH TORQUAY TEST

11 February 2014

The views of the Northampton Town manager ahead of Torquay United v Northampton Town, 11 February 2014

Cobblers boss Chris Wilder previews Tuesday night’s trip to Torquay.

“in football you look for a reaction from the players and from what I’ve seen they are really looking forward to the game and we are confident we can go to Torquay and get a result,” he said.

“I think I’ve got a good team of talented individuals to work with, we’ve just got to put it together.

“I’m sure if we can do that and start gaining points which in turn will give us a bit of confidence and momentum and all of a sudden then we’re off and running.

“It’s been incredibly hard in the last two games to get any rhythm into our game and start on the front foot but we’ve got to make sure that we give ourselves an opportunity of winning games of football by making sure that we don’t give daft goals away.

“We have to have a structure to our play and first and foremost we have to make sure that we are solid defensively.

“We have to be hard to beat, to be tough to play through and make sure that we don’t give anything away.

“I thought some of our forward play on Saturday was good and with a little bit more understanding between the players which will come from hard work I’m sure we will get better.

“It’s important the gap to the teams above us doesn’t get any bigger, we’re not going to claw the gap back overnight and it might take a little bit of time but we will claw it back and if it goes to the wire then it goes to the wire.”
