Book written by Richard's mother Gail

A new book detailing the life and times of former Northampton Town player Richard Butcher has been released and will help to raise funds to create a lasting memory of Richard within Northamptonshire. Entitled 'Butch - The Wings Of Football' and penned by Gail Butcher, mother to Richard, the book takes you through all the twists and turns and ups and downs of a professional football career through the eyes of both players and managers. And not forgetting Richard himself, the book also talks about his life story, the funny side of him as well as the tough side. The book has been written with the hope it will help young footballers in the future.

Richard's mother Gail said: "Being a mother after losing my son I needed to do something in Richard’s memory. But most of all I wanted to make a difference for the community and to help others. It has all been a learning curve for me to set up my website and I started my charity. We raised ten thousand pounds on our first attempt. I then asked the community and football managers what they would like to see me do with the money. And many of them said they could do with a community football pitch and club house. This is something we have never had in my lifetime. So I thought it would be a great achievement for us and for the community.
"So far over £33,000 has been raised, but we realise the need to reach out to stakeholders and corporate sponsors if we are to realise our long-term community dream."
The book is available to purchase through Amazon, where both Kindle and paperback versions are available:

There is also a Just Giving website where donations can be given to help to support the fundraising events of the Richard Butcher Memorial Trust:
