With the new Sky Bet League 2 season just a few days away, Chris Wilder opted to send a young side to Daventry Town for this final pre-season friendly, Connor Roberts being the only professional player to feature.

The Cobblers front two of Robbie Parsons and Dodzi Agbenu linked up well after 12 minutes with the former teeing up the latter who forced a finger tip save from the keeper with a stinging drive.

The hosts had the lead two minutes later when Dior Angus, son of former Cobblers defender Terry, fired home a half volley at the far post from a right wing cross.

Agbenu was proving a real threat, and the home keeper needed two attempts to save his driven free kick moments later while from a similar spot Connor Roberts curled another free kick over the bar.

Three minutes before the break, Jamie Calvin doubled the Daventry lead when he hammered home a close range volley.

Agbenu had a shot tipped over the bar in the opening exchanges of the second half, while the same player was involved again moments later when he tried to round the keeper but was denied by an outstretched arm.

As Daventry looked to go further ahead, Cobblers keeper Charlie Andrews tipped a long range effort over the bar,  before the third did arrive, Joe Power with a low finish at the midway point of the second half.

Although the Cobblers came close a few times, there was still time for the home side to add a fourth with 8 minutes to play. That was the final goal action of the night as the Cobblers pre-season campaign officially drew to a close.
