Former striker to invoke spirit of Shrewsbury, 1993

Former Northampton Town striker, Pat Gavin, will be at Sixfields on Saturday to invoke some of the Shrewsbury Town 1993 spirit.

On that occasion, the Cobblers needed a win on the last day at Gay Meadow to be sure of beating the drop and to stay in the Football League. They went 2-0 behind to promotion chasing Shrewsbury Town, but scored three times in the second half to ensure safety. The last two goals were scored by substitute Gavin, the second of which rebounded off him as he charged down a clearance from the goalkeeper.

Since that day, Gavin has been a hero amongst Cobblers fans, and he will be at the game on Saturday.

He will talk to guests in the Executive Restaurant before the game, before being introduced to the crowd shortly before kick off. He will also perform the half time 50:50 draw.

For the past few weeks a growing number of Cobblers fans have been willing the team on to safety under Pat Gavin's name.

The group has been promoting their name on various social media, under the hash tag #gavinitlarge. Last Saturday for the game at Dagenham, hundreds of Cobblers fans gathered in London many hours before kick-off, singing Cobblers songs gleefully up until the game, helping to produce a fantastic, boisterous, partisan atmosphere that really spurred the team to that fantastic win.
This Saturday is the final push. This is the final chance Cobblers fans have to help keep the club up as a unified, united front.

On Saturday, #gavinitlarge will be gathering at the Moon On The Square pub in the town centre at 10am, before moving on to the Sevens pub at 11, hopefully recreating the same sort of jovial atmosphere that was found on Liverpool Street last Saturday morning. The final stop will be Carr’s Bar at Sixfields at noon.
Clad yourself in claret, pick up your Cobblers scarf (these are a big part of the day, twirl them, hold them up proudly, they make a great show of support #scarvesforlaughs) and come and join the #gavinitlarge group for a sing song.  Take this atmosphere into the ground, wherever you sit, stomp your feet, roar yourself hoarse, beat your clapper, MAKE SOME NOISE FOR THE BOYS.

We are all Cobblers fans, with one common goal, to see the team succeed. Come and join us and do your bit.
From the #gavinitlarge collective
