Northampton Town travelled to Dagenham & Redbridge knowing a win would lift them out of the bottom two for the first time since September.

Zander Diamond, Ian Morris and Ivan Toney all came into the Cobblers side with Mathias Kouo-Doumbe, Leon McSweeney and Emile Sinclair dropping to the bench. Former Cobblers loanee Luke Norris started up front for the Daggers.

The Cobblers took the lead on 7 minutes, Ivan Toney with a terrific header following a pin-point cross from Ian Morris.

That lead was doubled four minutes later, Ian Morris with a superb lobbed shot from just outside the area.

The home side threatened for the first time on 34 minutes, Matt Duke called upon to tip over a header from Norris.

Ivan Toney scored a superb second goal to extend the Cobblers lead on 39 minutes, the young striker with a perfectly executed overhead kick to make it 3-0.

Duke saved from Medy Elito at the start of the second half as Dagenham looked to haul themselves back into the contest.

A Chris Hackett free-kick was well saved by Jordan Seabright before Chris Wilder made a change, Emile Sinclair replacing John Marquis.

Leon McSweeney then came on for Ivan Toney with two-goal hero Toney leaving the field to a standing ovation from the 1,200 plus travelling Cobblers fans.

Kelvin Langmead replaced Chris Hackett late on and although the second half may have been a much quieter affair but that mattered not one jot to the Cobblers as the three goals in the first half ensured that going into the last game of the season against Oxford United at Sixfields Chris Wilder's side were out of the relegation zone.
