TRIO DOUBTS FOR DAGGERS

16 October 2013

Town waiting of fitness of three key players

Chris Hackett, Joe Widdowson and Roy O’Donovan are all fitness doubts for Saturday’s Sky Bet League Two clash against Dagenham, a game the Cobblers are priced at 13/8 to win.

“Chris, Joe and Roy are all touch and go for Saturday,” confirmed boss Aidy Boothroyd.

“Joe’s problem is a neural one and we are hoping to get that resolved by the weekend.

“I left Chris out at Oxford as a precaution because I didn’t want to risk him doing something longer term and that’s the conundrum for me at the moment and has been really since pre-season.

“I want to push the players to be as physically fit as they can be but at the same time I want to make sure that I avoid injuries because I know that once the Saturday-Tuesday games start then that becomes the real endurance test.

“What we don’t need is any more injuries and what we do need is to get people back.

“I’ve been to watch three games this week and I’m always looking and we are always out there looking for players.

“We are all working hard behind the scenes to make sure that we have got a strong squad and in my opinion our squad on paper is a top three squad if everybody’s fit.

“This period for us, for all the staff and all the supporters is something that has happened and it’s something that we have to deal with and the key thing is that we learn from it.”
