Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd with a transfer and injury update ahead of this Saturday’s trip to Plymouth, a game the Cobblers are 12/5 to win.
“The striker that we wanted isn’t going to happen,” he said.
“I think sometimes when you keep chipping away at something there comes a time when you realise it’s not going to happen and I got to that stage on Sunday afternoon.
“That’s just part of the game and we move on to our next target.
“We do need to bring somebody in there is no doubt about that but it’s not as simple as just getting anybody, it has got to be the right one.
“We thought Roy O’Donovan was fit for the start of the season and we got all the okays from our medical contacts outside the club but it turned out that he wasn’t.
“I’ve felt for a long time that he’s not been a hundred per cent right but you can only go on what you are told by the experts.
“He’s had the operation now and hopefully he’ll be back in about a month.
“Clive Platt and Matt Heath are progressing nicely and we will have a look at them both towards the back end of the week and the early part of next week to see where we are at.
“I’m going to speak to Brentford about Luke Norris and Stuart Dallas, they have both done very well for us and I’d like to extend their loans as well as getting permission to play them in the FA Cup.
“I know that both players are happy and they are two parts of the team that are functioning.
“Jacob Blyth is nearing fitness and when he’s fit in a week or so we will have a look at bringing him back from Leicester.”
