Gary Deegan flashed an early volley just wide while a curling shot from Darren Carter was well saved by Chris Lewington.
Chris Hackett struck the post with a well-taken free-kick on 26 minutes and from the following Hackett corner the Cobblers had the lead, Luke Norris finishing from close range after a good nod down from Mathias Doumbe.
Dagenham equalised against the run of play on 39 minutes, Zavon Hines with a curled shot from distance.
Lewington made a good save to deny Carter before the Daggers took the lead, Rhys Murphy with a header from a left-wing cross.
Gary Deegan saw a shot well saved by Lewington on 59 minutes following a flowing Cobblers move.
Parity was restored three minutes later, Ian Morris with a drilled finish low into the bottom corner of the Dagenham goal.
As the Cobblers continued to press, an audacious overhead kick from Carter went wide following a Hackett cross. Ishmel Demontagnac then replaced Deegan as Aidy Boothroyd made his first change.
Ivan Toney came on for sponsors man of the match Luke Norris as the game entered the final few minutes. Four minutes of injury time were played but neither side could find a late winner meaning the score remained deadlocked at 2-2.
