Cobblers boss tells players to battle through current spell

Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd has stressed the importance of this Saturday’s home game against Dagenham, with a 2-0 win for the Cobblers priced at a tempting 10/1.

“We are where we are and we are all accountable for getting results,” he said.

“The last few weeks have been quite difficult, we had a good week last week after the win at Wimbledon and then this week we had a couple of goals go against us in a small period of time, one of which could have been avoided and one that should have resulted in a yellow card.

“I don’t want to sound like a victim, that's just how football is, sometimes things go for you and sometimes they don’t.

“There’s only one way to come through things like that, not blame anyone else, just do what you can and get on with it.

“We are in a difficult period but we will come out of it and we will come out stronger for it.

“It was my choice to change the personnel round in the summer, I thought that’s what we needed and I do believe that we have got the right players.

“We haven’t been helped by injuries and also good players haven’t been up to the level that they should have been. I think that’s fair to say and I think the players would be the first to admit that. Not all of them but I think certainly one or two of them know that they can perform better and I’m sure they will.

“Everybody connected with the football club is working hard to make us a better team because it’s an exciting time for us.

“Last season was a good one on the whole and I think we are now just at a stage where we are just starting to climb again. It is going to take time but we will come through this period.

“I think I’m the right man to turn things around and to get us back to where we were and beyond and I also know that to have any sort of progress you need to go through some adversity.

“It’s important not to get sidetracked, I’ve got to stay steady and keep going, I know what we need to do and we’ll do it.

“The people I work for are very supportive and strong and I think the supporters understand where we are at.

“I know the club has had a lot of lows over the years but I think the supporters recognise that there will be highs around the corner.

“We are going to be absolutely fine we’ve just got to battle through.”
