Cobblers boss Aidy Boothroyd has seen encouraging signs ahead of this Saturday’s home game against Accrington Stanley.

“Saturday is a big game for us in terms of our willingness to get ourselves out of this position and with a good performance and the crowd behind us I’m sure we can start looking forward,” he said.

“December is a key time for us and if we can get out of the bottom two going into the Grimsby game I think it will give the whole club a real lift.

“Accrington have won 5 out of 6 and they are in good form and for both teams it is a big game.

“We’ve put ourselves in a position where we’ve made this an important game, it was a good point at Chesterfield but we’ve got to make sure that we back that up and turn that one point into four.

“The last few games have been very positive on the whole, the performances have been good as has the energy and application of carrying out the game plans.

“We all know where we need to improve upon in terms of scoring goals but if we can keep clean sheets and find a formula to score then we’ll be in a good position.

“Because we’ve got extra bodies with legs in there now I think we are a threat on the counter attack and the fact that we limited Chesterfield to a couple of pot shots is a credit to the whole team in general.

“When you go away from home you’ve got to look to frustrate and impose yourself on the game and on Tuesday night I thought we did that very well and it was a very professional performance.”
