Kane Ferdinand then had the Cobblers best chance of the first half but headed just over from a Hackett cross.

Ex-Cobblers striker Marc Richards came on for Chesterfield just before the hour mark, replacing Gnaduillet. For the Cobblers Clive Platt came on for Blyth before Dallas made way for Gary Deegan.

A low shot from Ollie Banks was saved by Duke on 75 minutes while after a good break from Aidy Boothroyd's side Joe Widdowson found the side netting.

Ben Tozer came on for Danny Emerton in stoppage time as on the night that the Cobblers re-development plans for Sixfields were approved by Northampton Borough Council the side earned a very creditable point at Chesterfield.
